Healthy Families Dorchester

A resource, referral, and home-visiting program, offered at no cost that assists parents in giving their children a healthy and safe start. Recognizing that we all need support from others during times of change, Family Assessment and Support Workers can help determine a family's needs and assist in accessing resources to meet those needs. When indicated, the program can provide intensive weekly home visiting for as long as five years. All Dorchester County pregnant women and their families and families with newborns are eligible, regardless of their income.

Teen Pregnancy Coordinator

In order to reduce the costly health and social consequences of teen pregnancy, the Coordinator is available to facilitate planning with the pregnant teen, her family, medical personnel, the schools, and other community agencies to develop and provide comprehensive services to pregnant and parenting teens. The Coordinator is also involved in teen pregnancy prevention efforts with other community agencies and concerned citizens. This coordinator works closely with the Healthy Families Dorchester team, Early Head Start team, and the School-based Health Center program staff.

School-Based Wellness Centers

This program provides comprehensive health and mental health services. The services are delivered in the school building and are coordinated with the child's primary medical care provider. Currently, Centers are located at Mace's Lane Middle School [410-228-0973], North Dorchester Middle School [410-943-8815], Cambridge-South Dorchester High School [410-228-3825], and North Dorchester High School [410-943-3316]. With parental permission, services are available to all students in schools with Wellness Centers. Mental health services are also available for all elementary school students in the county.
