Highway Safety

Sobriety Checkpoints

Highway Safety

Focuses on problems identified by crash data for Dorchester County. Current data suggests that there are six target areas to address:

  • Impaired driving
  • Aggressive driving
  • Young driver/underage drinking
  • Occupant protection [seat belt and car seat use] (.pdf file)
  • Bicycle safety
  • Older driver safety [which are tackled by enforcement and educational materials]

Thanks to the Highway Safety Grant funded by the Maryland Highway Safety Office, this program is able to provide services such as:

  • Overtime for local law enforcement
  • Car seat clinics [Thursdays 12 - 4 pm by appointment only]
  • Media and awareness campaigns
  • Support of local after-prom parties
  • Purchasing of incentives to encourage our community to BE SAFE and BUCKLE UP!
