The Drug and Alcohol Recovery Training (DART) program is an intensive treatment program serving men and women in the Dorchester County Detention Center . It was initiated in 1995 under a grant from the Governor's Office of Crime Control & Prevention. This program offers a standardized assessment tool: the Alcohol Severity Index (ASI), individual and group counseling, HIV/AIDS education, and didactic programs for both male and female inmates. Continuing Care and Aftercare is provided at the Drug and Alcohol Health Services following the inmate’s release from incarceration. During Phase I of the program, inmates receive 18 group sessions per week for 4 weeks, followed by Phase II, which meets twice weekly for the remainder of the inmates stay in the Detention Center . Participants are required to attend weekly in-house AA/NA meetings during their time in the program. Program participants are housed in a dedicated housing unit within the Detention Center during Phase I, and may be relocated to Work-Release after Phase I completion. The DART Program office is staffed daily from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
