The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is the most intensive level of outpatient treatment available and is the primary treatment for cocaine addicts. Clients are seen two and a half hours per day or evening, Monday through Thursday, for eight weeks, and the program incorporates daily AA/NA participation into its schedule. We provide a full range of case management and supportive services for clients who often lack the resources and, early in treatment, the motivation to complete treatment assignments. These services include arrangement for detoxification and inpatient treatment, as well as halfway house and other residential aftercare referrals as needed. We often provide transportation to convey clients to and from these facilities, the nearest of which (excluding Warwick ) is 30 miles from Cambridge . We also work with law enforcement agencies to provide closer supervision for offenders with drug and alcohol dependence that are on probation or parole. Severely and persistently mentally ill clients are served through coordination with Shore Behavioral Health Systems (formerly the Dorchester County Mental Health Clinic) and Channel Markers, Inc., the local psychosocial rehabilitation program. Clients stepped down at Dorchester County DAHS to lower levels of continuing care are placed in aftercare specialized Men’s, Women’s, and combined groups until discharge. As noted earlier, Dorchester County DAHS also has a collaborative arrangement with Talbot County Health Department’s Addiction program in which Talbot County refers their clients in need of IOP treatment to us, in light of their not having the resources at present to provide services for this level of care. Transportation arrangements are jointly shared between our two jurisdictions.
