If you are pregnant and need help, the following services are offered in Maryland and could be available to you:

While you are pregnant:

• financial assistance
• medical assistance*
• food stamps**
• residential maternity care
• prenatal health care
• parent preparation programs
• WIC
• counseling services

After your child is born:

• financial assistance
• medical assistance*
• food stamps**
• child health care - EPSDT (early periodic screening, diagnosis, and treatment)
• family services
• adoptions services
• foster care services
• vocational employment services
• counseling services

*Medical Assistance provides payment for doctor, helpsital, medicine, and other medical bills. Anyone who receives public assistance payments through the local department of social services is automatically eligible for medical assistance. Other persons may be eligible, according to their level of income, and may applly at the local department of social services or at the Health Department.

**The Food Stamp Program provides food coupons to increase the food purchasing power of low income households. The amount of coupons depends on the number of persons in the households as well as their combined income.
