A HEPA vacuum is much more efficient in picking up lead dust because of it's unique filtering system. The HEPA filter keeps the dust inside the vacuum, as opposed to a regular vacuum that re-circulates lead dust back into the air that children breathe. A HEPA vacumm can remove hazardous lead dust in your home.
The Dorchester County Health Department has HEPA vacuums available for loan to hlep remove the dangerous lead dust from your home. The Health Department will loan the HEPA vacuum to those who live in rental housing. There is a fee for property owners.
